Maria J. Alonso, CEO of Qaleon, was one of the women leaders participating in the GSW 2022. This Global Summit was held at Centara Grand Hotel and Convention Centre in Bangkok under the theme "Women: Creating Opportunities in the New Reality" on 23 June. The meeting was attended by women leaders from business and government sectors from all over the world.

The objective of this Summit has been to generate a framework of new opportunities through the format of different conferences, focused on topics with great impact on sustainability, business profitability and digital transformation.

Maria J. Alonso participated in the panel "Understanding the Virtual Finantial Stream: Cryptocurrency, NFTS, Metaverse and eSport", together with Cindy Pace, Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at MetLife, Patama Chantaruck, Director of Accenture in Thailand and Monica Jimenez, Director of Metaverse at Chamaleon 3.0 DAO. Metaverse, Cryptocurrencies, Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) and e-Sports are driving the digital age, that's what these business leaders said in their remarks at the Global Women's Summit 2022.

"Thanks to modern technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), the Metaverse closely resembles our real life" said Maria J Alonso, CEO of Qaleon.

According to Maria J. Alonso, "the Metaverse is a shared platform of virtual products and highly immersive and interactive digital experiences. It is a shared world because you see it as real and unreal at the same time."

She noted that the Metaverse helps create virtual products with real value, not hypothetical, including handbags, hotel rooms, experiences, education and luxury cars. And highlighted that the new technologies that will drive the Metaverse era are 5G and 6G Networks, Cloud, Edge Infrastructure, Chips, Processors, Virtual Reality Headsets, Augmented Reality Glasses, High-Resolution Graphics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

"The Metaverse can be used for a variety of activities, such as entertainment, commerce, education, health treatment, safer training, accident prevention, operations and infrastructure testing" said Maria J. Alonso.

She also said, that sectors facing Metaverse disruption include fashion, retail, gaming, sports, fitness, real estate, financial services, cybersecurity, advertising, workplace and collaboration tools, education, events and law.

"The Metaverse is a vision, not a concrete technology, and there is still a long way to go."

Patama Chantaruck, Managing Director of Management Consultancy Accenture Thailand, said the pace of change has accelerated over the past three decades, from the Internet of Data era in the 1990s to the Internet of People in the 2000s, the Internet of Things in the 2010s and the Internet of Place and Property in the 2020s. The latest change is driven by Blockchain, which is powering the Metaverse, NFTs, Cryptocurrencies and e-Sports with its transparency, immutable transactions, security and smart contracts.

Monica Jimenez, Director of the Metaverse at Camaleón 3.0, an organisation in Mexico that creates tools for disruptive digital communities, has focused her intervention on NFTs as they can take the form of vehicle registrations, land registries, patent ownership databases, copyright registrations, land titles, degree certificates, voting rights, carbon credits, painted canvases, baseball cards, brand lists, concert tickets and club memberships.

These days have been a meeting point for networking, sharing best practices, focusing on creative solutions to advance the economic progress of women workers, business owners, consumers and investors, globally.
